Gerhard Jack Koester, Jr., the son of Gerhard and Charlotte (Andersen) Koester, Sr., was born on May 3, 1941 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on September 2, 2020 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 79 years, 3 months, 30 days.
Jack pretty much lived his entire life in Superior. He was employed at the lumber yard in Superior for over 40 years, earning the respect from co-workers and patrons. He was an avid coin and gun collector and was very knowledgeable in both. As a young gentleman he was very interested in the happenings around town, especially if the trains were hauling something interesting or an unusual airplane landed at the airport. He befriended Floyd Wheeler and was seen with him often, together they would deliver papers to the neighboring towns, and he would also take photos for the newspaper, and during the 4th of July, Floyd and Jack would buy zebra firecrackers, the "louder the better" he would say. He loved to read, every Saturday morning he was at the Express buying all the available newspapers he could, along with many magazines that he subscribed to. You would always see cats at the lumber yard, that's because Jack loved cats and he always fed them there and also in his neighborhood. Jack was a unique guy and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerhard and Charlotte.
Survivors include his sister Carolyn Laux and husband Monte of Kansas City and many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held St. Joseph Catholic Church, Superior, Nebraska, on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 10:30 am with the Rosary recited at 10:00 before his service. Rev. Ferdinand Boehme will officiate.
Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Superior, Neb.
Memorials may be sent in care of the family.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 on Monday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home, 750 N Commercial, Superior, Nebraska 68978 Phone 402-879-3900.
