Donald "Don" Franklin Heidrick, loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, went to be with the Lord on September 11th, 2020, at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kan.
He was born the son of Edward J. and Inez M. (Donovan) Heidrick, on June 22, 1944 in Beloit. He graduated from St. John High School in Beloit and then graduated from Kansas State University.
On April 19, 1969 he was united in marriage with Martha "Mardy" J. Streit at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton, Kan. The union was blessed with two children: Christy and Jeanice. Family was the most important thing to him and he loved them all deeply. Being a husband, father, and later a grandfather brought him great joy.
Don was Assistant City Clerk in Beloit and in 1985 he became the City Administrator in Anthony, Kan. He retired in 2010 after over 25 years of city service.
He was a hard worker and earned many municipal awards. He served his city in many different capacities, including the Elks Club, Jaycees, City Council, and Lions Club. He was a Hospice volunteer in Beloit and had the honor to serve the first Hospice patient.
He was a member of the St. John Catholic Church and the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community in Harper County. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector, until back surgery. His Catholic faith was deep and very important to him. Many mornings were spent kneeling in prayer reading the Bible. He was a devout man and showed that faith in his regular visits to shut-ins.
Many remember Don for his kindness, service, loyalty and unexpected humor. He was a supportive and quiet leader to his past employees. Don enjoyed gardening and guided his daughters in their gardening endeavors. He enjoyed watching sports, especially KU/KSU games. He often bet his daughter, Christy, large amounts of money ($1) on those games.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Inez Heidrick. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mardy; two daughters and their spouses, Christy and Brian Heffernan, Jeanice and Dave Ball; four grandchildren, Megan and Emily Heffernan, Oliver and Ruby Ball; and siblings, Chuck (Pat) Heidrick, Max (Michele) Heidrick, and Paul (Kathy) Heidrick. Don also left behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Tuesday, September 15, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with a Rosary Service beginning at 7 PM Monday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. The rosary may be viewed Live-streamed at https://youtu.be/Bt29Zqh870o. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice, Mitchell County Food Pantry, Anthony Community Care Center, or St. John's Catholic Church. Masks and social distancing are strongly encouraged.
