Lois Guipre-Simoneau, 93

Lois Helen Wolf Guipre-Simoneau passed away on Thursday, January 14, at the age of 93 at Beloit, Kan. Lois was born on March 24, 1927 to Frank and Cora Rehor Wolf, Simpson, Kan. She married her school sweetheart, James Lawdell Guipre, in 1945. They resided on a farm north of Simpson and in 1950 moved to a farm south of Simpson. They had five daughters, Deanna Lynn, Cynthia Jean, Angela Sue, Michelle Ann and Kristi Lee. The family moved to Miltonvale in 1958 and Lois went to work at the St Joseph Hospital, Concordia, in the radiology department. The family then moved to Clay Center where Lois worked for Carlson Truck Line. The family then settled in Beloit, with Lois residing in Beloit for the remainder of her life. While in Beloit, Lois was employed at Topeka Motor Freight and then the Mitchell County Extension Office, retiring in 1988. When employed at the extension office, Lois was a 4-H project leader for many projects. James died suddenly in 1988. Lois married Eugene Simoneau in 1989 and they enjoyed traveling, square dancing and bowling, participating in three national bowling contests, until his death in 2000. Lois continued to work for the Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce and the Mitchell Co. Credit Bureau and retired at the age of 80. While employed by the Chamber, Lois was instrumental, along with others, in bringing the concept for the Beloit Isle of Lights to fruition. She moved to Hilltop Lodge Retirement Community in 2010.
She enjoyed social activities and was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Town and Country Garden Club and the Beloit Country Club. Lois enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, along with gardening and growing roses.
She is survived by her daughters, Deanna (Richard Phelps), Cynthia (Dennis Sports-Wilson), Angela (Joe LeSage), Michelle (Scott Schoon), and Kristi (Nathaniel Grabill); grandchildren, Darin (Lori) Phelps, Karla (Mark) Hoover, James Sports-Wilson, Tara Barth, Melanie (Eric) Glassman, Heather (Randy) Eilert, Christopher (Kim) LeSage, Steven Schoon, Kevin (Breann) Schoon, Stacie (Steve) Fitch, Alexis (Nick) Greenway, Ashlynn (Riley) Grabill, Austin (Jordan) Grabill, and foster granddaughter, Lori Ponce; 27 great-grandchildren, Rachel, Nathan and Isaac Phelps; Aaron, Seth and Noah Hoover; Taylor Burwick and Devin Sports-Wilson, Rustin Barth and Mason Clover; Alana, Brynn and Baylee Eilert; Lauren and Cameron Glassman; Brecken, Brody and Brindle LeSage; Emersyn and Kennedy Schoon; and Harrison and Hayden Fitch, Carolyn and Corina Grabill, Tanner and Taytum Bryan, Dean Greenway and two great-great grandchildren; step children, Dan Simoneau, Cleo (Roxanne) Simoneau, Tom Simoneau, Roger (Mary) Simoneau, Jerome (Janelle) Simoneau, Louyonne Taapken (deceased), their families.
Lois is preceded in death by her husbands, James Guipre and Eugene Simoneau; her parents, Frank and Cora Wolf; sister, Lucille Johnson, and baby brother.
Family-only funeral services will take place at 10:30 AM Monday, January 18, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Beloit First Christian Church or the Resident Care Center.
