Maxine Marie Caron, age 96, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, Kansas. She was born on October 9, 1924 on a farm near Clyde, Kansas, to Arthur and Thressa (Bottger) Trowbridge.
Maxine attended county school at Cramner School and Joines School. She graduated from Clyde High School in 1942. Maxine married Vincent Caron in Salina, Kansas, on February 27, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son (Arthur Joseph Caron), and sister Marge Knox.
Maxine in survived by her son Steven and friend Carolyn; grandchildren Evan Caron and friend Minique (Portland, Oregon) and granddaughter Hallie Caron Whalen and husband Corey (Prineville, Oregon); nieces: Jeanne Mac Vicar of Los Altos, California; Mary Carlson (Richard) Clyde, Kansas, Diane Caron of Santa Fe, New Mexico; nephew: Dennis Knox (Judy) of Kansas City, Mike Caron of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Paul Caron of Sante Fe, New Mexico.
Maxine lived her entire life in Clyde, Kansas. She was a lifetime member of the Clyde Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, past worthy Matron of the order of the Eastern star, and a member of the Clyde V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was Jr. Supt. and Senior Supt. of the Christian Church, secretary of the Clyde Senior Citizens Center for six years and Secretary of the Clyde V.F.W. Auxiliary. Maxine was a Grand Marshall of the Clyde Watermelon Festival Parade on September 3, 2016. She was a recipient of the Harold and Leola Woods Service Award given by the Clyde Area Foundation in 2015.
Maxine was a "Soda Jerk" working the soda fountain at Isaacson's Drug Store while in high school. Following high school she worked at the Exchange Bank for several years. She then was a receptionist for Dr. Coulter in Clyde, Kansas. Later Maxine worked as a school secretary at the Clyde Grade School for 27 ½ years. Last, but not least, she worked as a receptionist at Chaput Mortuary in Clyde, Kansas, for several years, retiring on March 15, 2016 at the age of 92. Alexine Chaput would have been proud.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Chaput Mortuary in Clyde, Kansas.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the First Christian Church in Clyde, Kansas, with Pastor Marty Singleton officiating. A private family burial of the cremains will take place late at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas.
