Lloyd Preston, age 78, entered into rest on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on January 13, 1943 in Farnam, Nebraska, to Lloyd E. and Dana (Pearce) Preston.
Lloyd was a 1961 graduate of Alma High School, Alma, Nebraska. Lloyd graduated from Kansas City Kansas Junior College, attended University of Kansas for one year. He then graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in Sociology.
Lloyd served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1966 during the Vietnam War as a Quarter Master and was honorably discharged.
On May 29, 1966 he married Sheryle Sheets in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union three children were born, Chad, Paula, and Brian.
Lloyd worked as a Director of Nursing for Hadley Hospital in Hays, Kansas. Moving to Garden City, Kansas, Lloyd worked for the Sisters of St. Joseph as the Vice President of Human Resources. The family then moved to Concordia, Kansas, where he managed the Chemical Dependency Unit at St. Joseph Hospital. Lloyd then started his own business and owned and operated Lloyd's Painting in Concordia for 35 years.
He was a member of The Baptist Church in Concordia.
Lloyd enjoyed, hunting, golfing, making people laugh and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sheryle of the home in Concordia; two sons, Chad Preston, Concordia, Kansas, and Brian Preston (Andrea), Olathe, Kansas; a daughter, Paula Anderson (Todd), Virginia City, Nevada; 11 grandchildren, Jacob, Trevor, Jacob, Blake, Tyler, Sadie, Lily, Bradyn, Garrett, Lukas, and Olivia; a brother, J.C. Preston (Judy), Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister, Julia Wolf (Gary), Albuquerque, New Mexico; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Dana Preston.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 at The Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Peppers officiating.
A private family burial will be held prior to the Celebration of Life Service at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22nd, 2021 at the West Branch Cemetery, rural Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor Jonathan Peppers officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and local American Legion and V.F.W. of Concordia.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm.
