Gertrude Isabel (Householter) Breault, age 101.5, of Concordia, passed away on Friday July 23, 2021, at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, after a short stay. She was born on January 4, 1920, in Rice, Kansas, to Debolt M. Householter and Hattie Evelyn (Cross) Householter. Her uncle, Dr. Hebert Doty, delivered her at the Rice home.
Gertrude graduated from Concordia High School in 1938. She then attended Emporia State Teacher's College for one year. After that, she moved back to Concordia and worked at the law firm of Stanford and Brummett as a secretary. The following year, she began working for Concordia Ice and Cold Storage Company as a bookkeeper for over a decade. In 1962, she began a career at Kansas Power and Light Company, where she stayed until her retirement in 1989.
Gertrude belonged to VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Church Altar Society, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Board Member National Orphan Train, Finesse Bridge Club, Delta Dek Bridge Club, Red Hat Society, and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for nearly 80 years. Gertrude received many awards in her lifetime including: 2011 Leon Gennette Lifetime Achievement Award for community service, held various offices in all her organizations, and volunteered countless hours to many worthwhile charities in Concordia.
Gertrude married LeRoy Sylvester Breault on November 9, 1942. They made their home in Concordia. To this union, five children were born: Anne Loretta Stone, Concordia; David Lee, Tallahassee, Florida; John Paul, Concordia; Dr. Mark Edward, Jamestown; Catherine Marie (Kevin) Harris, Beloit. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Lori Samuelson, Denver, Colorado, Bria Scott (Adam), Minneapolis, Kansas, Dustin Breault (Dr. Dorothy), Concordia, Kansas, Bradyn Breault (Sheryl), Topeka, Kansas, Destiny Bowers (Brice), Concordia, Kansas, Trask Breault, Jamestown, Kansas, Paxton Harris, Hays, Kansas, Camden Harris, Hays, Kansas, Blayne Harris, Hays, Kansas, and one step-grandchild, Chad Harris (Megan), Dallas, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Alexa, Mason, and Elle Scott; Tierney, Teagan, and McKenzie Breault; Keygan and Miley Breault; Georgianna, Lollie Mae, and Minnie Bowers; Ziley Hope; and Colby Harris.
Gertrude loved reading, traveling, playing bridge, and volunteering around Concordia. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially eating out and enjoying all sorts of desserts! Her favorite gift was receiving cards and she saved every single one.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; parents, Debolt and Hattie; and her infant sister, Patricia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, Kansas, with Father David Metz officiating. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, with a rosary at 6 p.m. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Family will greet friends after the Rosary Service.
The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Organ Fund or National Orphan Train Complex.
