BELOIT CITY COUNCIL â€“ Wednesday, March 16, 2022

The Beloit City Council conducted their bi-weekly meeting Wednesday night at City Hall. All Councilors were present. Mayor Tom Naasz conducted the meeting in the absence of City Administrator Jason Rabe. Also in attendance were City Attorney Katie Schroeder and City Clerk Amanda Lomax.
Mayor Naasz referred the Councilors to the summary reports made available by Jason Rabe for the latest information regarding the various ongoing City projects.
Community Development Director Emily Benedick updated the Counselors about proposed signage. Two eight-foot by eight-foot signs will be placed at the north edge of town along highway 24. Two four-foot by eight-foot signs will be placed on Walnut Street near the high school. Plans are also being made for eighteen-inch by twenty-four-inch signs to be placed on lots available to be purchased from the Beloit Land Bank.
Benedick told the Counselors that a mailing is scheduled to go out this week to every Beloit business owner regarding programs available to assist with their businesses.
A report was given by the Code Enforcement Officer about the work being done at 212 North Mill. He said there was good cooperation between all parties involved. At some point in the future the property will be abated.
City Attorney Katie Schroeder reported activity is progressing well on the property located on East South Street. She said she has reached out to the property owners and told them about the Land Bank program. They indicated interest in donating the property to the Beloit Land Bank.
The Council voted to adopt the five year, 2022-2026, Community Improvement Plan.
The upcoming Safe Route to Schools plan for sidewalk construction was discussed. Information from the Kansas Department of Transportation indicated the entire cost of this segment of the program is estimated to be $400,000. The estimate for the City of Beloit's share will be $131,000.
