Cecelia "Sis" Mary Pahls was born on May 14, 1925 in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth Wessling Engelbert. She died Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Resident Care Center in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 96.
Sis, as she was known, grew up in Beloit and attended and graduated from St. John's High School.
On November 15, 1945, she was united in marriage with Ed Pahls at the St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. They were privileged to spend nearly 71 years of marriage together when he died in September, 2016. Six children were born to this union.
Sis worked in the Scotts Dime Store and Southwestern Bell for many years, and was a bookkeeper for Farmway COOP for 25 years. After she retired, she kept active in many school and parish activities. She also did a lot of baking, cooking, and sewing, and was especially known for her beef stew and fry cakes. Music was very important to her, and she instilled that in her family. She especially loved her time spent with grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society, and also was a member of the church choir in both Beloit and Tipton.
In addition to her husband Ed, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Louise Lutgen; and her brother, Norbert Engelbert.
Sis is survived by her children, Reta Schroeder of Beloit, Joe Pahls of Smith Center, Marilyn Goheen of Minneapolis, Michael Pahls of Beloit, Betty Jo and her husband Tim of Beloit, and Patrick Pahls and Michelle Serra of Littleton, Colorado; her brother, Greg Engelbert and his wife Lila of Littleton, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 AM Tuesday, May 10, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton.
Memorials may be given to Tipton Schools.
