Katherine P. Doyen gained her angel wings on May 7, 2022. She passed away at the age of 87 at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit, Kansas, and was formerly of Concordia, Kansas. She was the only child of Almon and Hazel Brown, born May 18, 1934, in rural Concordia.
Katherine grew up on her parents' farm, attended country school and later graduated from Concordia High School in 1952. Keeping in touch with her friends and classmates was very important to her. She was married to Floyd Vandervoort in 1952 and later married Richard Mosburg in 1966 and he passed in 1990. Katherine and Senator Ross Doyen were united in marriage in Niagra Falls, New York, in 1993 and he passed away in 2014.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Larry) Wheeler of Glen Elder; son, Richie Mosburg of Kansas City, Kansas; stepdaughters, Cynthia Bourg of Ocala, Florida, and Angie Danner of Manhattan, Kansas; one granddaughter, Katie Bourg of Sebastian, Florida; and her faithful cat companion, Rooster. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents and many dear friends and family members.
Katherine's career spanned many years including owning/managing the River Road Restaurant in Concordia as well as several years working as a bank teller in Shawnee and Concordia. In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers, square dancing, cooking the best fried chicken, baking delicious pies, and tending to her pets. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Wesleyan Methodist Church, the Moose Club, Concordia Country Club and the Elks Club. Katherine had fond memories of all the social events that took place in Concordia back in the day. She had a strong faith and will be remembered most for her generosity and her love for animals. The rainbow bridge must surely have seen a surge in activity after her passing.
It was Katherine's wishes to be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Friday, May 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, with Pastor Bob Burns officiating. There will be a private family burial of cremains to follow later. Friends may call on Thursday, May 19, from 9 am to 5 pm at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to support the O'Connor Animal Shelter or Solomon Valley Hospice in care of the funeral home at 325 W. 6th St., Concordia, KS 66901.
