MITCHELL COUNTY COMMISSIONERS – Monday, August 15, 2022

By Terry Bailey

The Mitchell County Commissioners conducted their weekly meeting at the Courthouse on Monday morning, August 15. All Commissioners and the County Clerk were present.
The Commissioners faced a rare meeting with a blank agenda. With no items scheduled for discussion the Commissioners used the time to discuss the status of County projects in varying stage of completion.
One item of note was the status of the replacement of the Courthouse parking lot. When the bid was let several months ago, there were two bids from local contractors under consideration for the job, Trenton Harr and B & M Construction. After due diligence the Commissioners awarded the contract to B & M with the understanding that they could start the project and have it done by the end of July in spite of their bid being $20,000 higher than Harr's bid. Harr was not able to provide a solid completion date due to other projects in which he was involved.
At this point B & M has not yet begun the work to replace the Courthouse parking lot in spite their assurance that the work would be done by the end of July.
The Commissioners will look into this delay and determine what action is necessary.
A Neighborhood Revitalization Grant was approved to Bret and Lacy Wichers for a new residential building in the amount of $144,184.
County Clerk Chris Treaster reminded the Commissioners that the budget hearings for Center Township and Fire Districts #1 and #2 will be held at the Commissioners meeting room at the Courthouse on August 22 at 9:00 a.m. Citizens are encouraged to attend and participate in process.
