Loren Reed Harvey passed away peacefully at the Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kansas, on September 19, 2022 at the age of 88. He was born September 17, 1934 to Reed and Blanche (Coburn) Harvey in rural Mitchell County, Kansas. He was the youngest of two children.
Loren first attended a rural school until the family moved to Beloit and he graduated from high school in 1952. He attended Kansas State for three years before returning to Beloit to work in construction. He was drafted into the Army and met Paul Eller, who introduced Loren to his sister, Carolyn. They were married June 14, 1959 and established their home in Beloit.
Loren and Carolyn were blessed with two sons, Leroy and Eric. Loren worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 ½ years. Loren was involved in many activities in Beloit. He coached his sons' baseball teams in the summer, was a Boy Scout and Cub Scout Leader, which earned him the Silver Beaver Award for his outstanding volunteer efforts in Scouting. He enjoyed athletics and attended sporting events, not only for his sons, but his grandchildren too. He was also actively involved in many aspects of church life.
During retirement, Loren enjoyed making wood furniture for his grandchildren, going camping with Carolyn and friends from the Beloit area, fishing, and maintaining his vegetable garden. He continued to work in Scouting locally and at the district level. He annually sold advertising for the Shrine Circus in Salina. Loren was very active in many organizations as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beloit, Mt. Vernon Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, ISIS Shrine Temple, NCK Shrine Club, ISIS Shrine Legion of Honor, the Beloit American Legion Post, and was a member of the "Golden Eagle" at Camp Hansen.
Loren is survived by his son, Leroy and wife Winsome; grandchildren, Gavin, Collin, and Isabella; sisters-in-law, Elaine Eller and Betty Eller; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents; his brother, Willis; and his son, Eric.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, September 24, at the Beloit First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present from 4-7 PM Friday, September 23, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Church, Bethesda Home in Goessel, Scout Troop 98, or Cub Pack 99 of Beloit.
