Rita Marie Larsen, age 98, of Concordia, left this earthly life on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, Kansas, surrounded by her family.
She was born on February 12, 1924 at home on the farm in Center Township to Martin and Mary (Grimm) Flynn.
She was a 1941 graduate of Aurora Catholic High School, Aurora, Kansas. She received her RN degree in Nursing from the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. Rita went on to work as a RN at the new hospital in LaCrosse, Kansas, and was instrumental in helping it get its start. She later attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. Rita then worked for Dr. Kosar in Concordia who was a practicing Ear, Nose and Throat specialist.
She married Glenn H. Larsen on June 11, 1950 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Aurora, Kansas. To this union one child, Frederick, was born. Glenn preceded her in death on September 3, 2011.
Rita was a past member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Jamestown until its closing. While at St. Mary's Rita was a church organist, served on the Altar Society, and taught religious education for many years. She became a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia until her passing. Rita was also involved in the community with the local 4-H, and Buffalo Valley EHU in her earlier years.
She truly enjoyed playing the piano and organ and sharing her love of music by teaching her family music lessons through the years. In later years she enjoyed making memorable scrapbooks filled with family history and pictures for her family members to cherish forever. Most of all she loved spending time with her beloved family and friends.
Rita is survived by her son, Fred Larsen (Phyllis), Concordia, Kansas; four grandchildren, Michelle Widen (Jack), Concordia, Kansas, Christina Bausch (Daniel), Hoyt, Kansas, Bryan Larsen (Lacy), Jamestown, Kansas, Jill Wiseman (Lucas), Glen Elder, Kansas; ten great-grandchildren, Christian, Anna, Deacon Widen, Darren, Alaina, Keaton Bausch, Hunter, Kendall Larsen, Brooklyn, Easton Wiseman; two brothers-in-law, Stanley McMillan, Concordia, Kansas, and Vincent Link, Aurora, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded by her husband, Glenn; parents, Martin and Mary; and sister, Martina Link.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary service will be held on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. February 9, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas. Family will receive friends after the Rosary Service in the Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. February 10, 2023 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, Kansas, with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
