MITCHELL COUNTY COMMISSIONERS â€“ Monday, February 6, 2023

The Mitchell County Commissioners conducted their weekly meeting at the Courthouse on Monday morning, February 6th. All Commissioners were present for the get-together.
First up was Eric Hamel, Director of Emergency Medical Services. Hamel requested a fifteen-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. The closed session was extended twice, once for 10 minutes and another time for five minutes. No decisions were made as a result of this closed session.
Hamel requested that the pay raises for Emergency Medical personnel discussed at last week's meeting be implemented. The Commissioners vote to raise the pay as follows: EMT $14.25 per hour, AMT $15.25 per hour and Paramedic $17.00 per hour. The raises will take effect as of February 1st.
Kegan Bailey requested the expenditure of $2003 to purchase and AED device to be located in downtown Beloit for emergency purpose. The Commissioners approved the purchase to this life-saving device.
Melinda Latham, County Appraiser, was on hand to introduce her new employee, Leah Engelbert Hyman. Hyman needed no introduction because she has worked as a custodian at the Courthouse for quite some time. Her official start date will be February 20th.
Latham told the Commissioners that tax statements will be mailed on February 16th. When asked whether the statements will be up or down, she replied, "They will be up. A lot."
Commissioner Mike Cooper commented, "We have had a lot of high dollar houses being built in Mitchell County."
Latham said the new guidelines from the state indicate a strong shift from agriculture property to residential and commercial properties.
Brian Streit, Head of Courthouse Maintenance, requested a ten-minute executive to discuss non-elected personnel. No decisions were made as a result of that closed session.
The Commissioners voted to approve a declaration naming the month of February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
Having addressed all the items on the published agenda, the meeting was adjourned.
