Anthony "Tony" Joseph Martin was born on February 16, 1956 in Concordia, Kansas, the son of Dennis (Denny) and Dorothy Chavey Martin. He died Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas, at the age of 67.
Tony grew up and spent his whole life in Glasco, where he graduated from Glasco High School in 1974. Following graduation, he attended the University of Kansas for a year and a half before returning to Glasco to work with his father at Martin Electric. He later attended NCK Technical College to be certified as a plumbing, heating and air conditioning technician. For Martin Electric, he worked not only on electrical jobs, but also plumbing, heating, air conditioning and small appliances. Following his father's death in 2009, he took over running the business.
He stayed busy in his spare time, serving as a volunteer fireman, as well as coaching pee wee baseball and officiating junior high sports for a number of years. Tony played football and basketball and ran track in high school. He played on Glasco's Slo-Pitch Softball team, participating in many weekend tournaments and league games. Tony was a member of the Jaycee's Club as well as the St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Glasco Golf Club where he played numerous rounds of golf. In between rounds of golf, he also spent hundreds of hours providing volunteer maintenance at the course and upkeep of the clubhouse. He was an avid sports fan, and closely followed his Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. The daily crossword or Sudoku puzzle was always nearby waiting for him to tackle the challenge.
Tony was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Martin of Glasco, and his sister, Janelle Martin of Lawrence.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Tuesday, November 21, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasco. A rosary service will be at 10:30 AM, and visitation will be from 9:30 until the rosary service begins on Tuesday at the Church.
