Myrna Prewett of Beloit, Kansas, was called back to God on December 20, 2023, at Mitchell County Hospital, the day after her 93rd birthday.
Myrna Lea Jamison was born December 19, 1930, in Quinter, Kansas, to Ernest and Ruby (Jarboe) Jamison. She was the sixth of eleven children raised on her parents' farm. Myrna learned from that upbringing the value of hard work, honesty, integrity and frugality, which she proudly carried with her throughout her life and passed on to her children. Myrna attended school in Quinter and graduated from Quinter High School in 1949.
Myrna met LV Prewett in Wakeeney, Kansas, and they married in April, 1950. They raised their five children in Glasco, Kansas, while LV was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline Company. Through the years, LV's job with NGPL took the family to Perryton, Texas, Beatrice, Nebraska, and Dumas, Texas. During these moves, Myrna held various retail jobs with Gibson's, JC Penney and Alco. In 1977, LV took a job working on the Alaska Pipeline and they moved to Alaska where they welcomed many visitors. Myrna and LV loved to take visitors salmon fishing and then let them help smoke and can the fish they caught so they could take it home to enjoy. They lived in Alaska until LV retired in 1992, after which they moved to Beloit.
Crafting and sewing were two of Myrna's favorite pastimes. She enjoyed playing pinocle, league bowling and playing dice games with the family. She loved cooking for family gatherings, tending to her flowers, and belonging to her Circle at Beloit Methodist Church. Participating in her cancer survivor support group was important to her (she was a survivor of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma), as was being a member of TOPS/KOPS for many years. She took pride in the chocolate angel food cakes she made for the church's Valentine's Day bake sale. A large family dinner would not be complete without one of her delicious Jello salads, validated by the number of empty Cool-Whip bowls in her kitchen cabinet.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband, LV, in 2012; her parents and her five brothers and five sisters: Hershel, Virgil, Reuben, Loren, Loreen (Williams), Eula (Schreiner), Wava (Smith), Lily (Zeman), Nellie (Kepferle) and Edwin. After her last sibling passed away, she often emotionally remarked that she couldn't believe that she was the only one left and that she really missed them all, a testament to how much she valued her family.
Survivors include her five children, Leanna Dagley, Beloit, Kansas, Denise Wallman and her partner, Eddie Donaldson, Olathe, Kansas, Doug, Lincoln, Nebraska, Lee and his wife, Crystal, Pickrell, Nebraska, and Les, Anchorage, Alaska. She was proud of her thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson, whom she was able to meet and hold this past October. She leaves behind a multitude of relatives and friends, near and far, with whom she had kept in contact for many years.
Per Myrna's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 17, at the Beloit Methodist Church.
Memorial donations can be made to Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas, Beloit Methodist Church, or Beloit Senior Center.
Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
