Carolyn Dee Henning was born on September 20, 1935 in Randall, Kansas, one of six daughters to Marshall and Hazel Flinn Atkins. She died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 88.
She was raised on her family farm south of Randall, where she attended schools and later graduated from Randall High School.
On May 5, 1955, she was united in marriage with Jimmie Lee Henning in Randall. Four children were born to this union, Kenneth, Albert, Leland, and Edith. After they were married, they moved to Glasco, and later to his family farm north of Glasco, where they enjoyed farming and raising their family. They were privileged to spend nearly 62 years of marriage together until his death in March, 2017. They also enjoyed several trips together with Marlin and Irene Amspacker, Jimmie's cousin.
Carolyn assisted the Secretary of the Kansas VFW Auxiliary for many years and later worked as a legal secretary until retiring. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cross-stitching and collecting antiques and collectibles. She also enjoyed reading and working crossword and cryptogram puzzles. She was also very active in the community, volunteering for many civic organizations and generously donating time and money to many local causes.
In addition to her husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Leland and Albert; and her sisters, Erma Price, Ivah Hoard, Evelyn Barrett, Marjorie Moser, and Ardith Brock.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Kenneth and his wife Sharon of Glasco; daughter, Edith and her husband Gib Hulett of Beloit; five grandchildren, Crystal (Matt) Bean, Lorraine Henning, Rebecca Horting, Connor (Mallory) Hulett, and Tanner (Kristin) Hulett; great-grandchildren, Whitney, Tia, and Lorna Ehlers, Kaiden and Kara Horting, Mikhale Smith, Culver, Palmer, and Colter Hulett, Mila Henning, and Lainey Hulett; a great-great-granddaughter, Malani Spraggins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday, February 16, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glasco. Visitation will be from 1 PM to 7 PM with family present from 5 PM to 6 PM Thursday, February 15, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Church, Glasco VFW, or Glasco Community Foundation.
