Dennis Eugene Stewart was born on August 16, 1948, the third child of Gerald and Alberta (Miller) Stewart. He died suddenly on April 14, 2024 at the age of 75 years with all three kids by his side.
He grew up on the family farm east of Hunter, Kansas. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966. He then attended Fort Hays State University in the fall and was a walk-on player for the basketball team.
Dennis married Linda Tiemann in January of 1967 and this union was blessed with three children. He then attended Wichita Automotive School in January of 1968 while working at Learjet Aircraft Company and graduated in 1969. His first job took him to Beloit as an auto mechanic at Beloit Motor Co. In August of 1971 he had the opportunity to teach the auto mechanics program at NCK Area Vocational Technical School where he taught for the next 31 years. Following his retirement from teaching, he dedicated his time to farming the family land until his untimely passing. One of Dennis' favorite pastimes was officiating basketball, a passion he began in 1969 and shared with Jason, whom he brought along with him from time to time. As everyone knew, Dennis never fully gave up officiating. He continued to ref many games from the stands, letting us all know what the right call was.
Dennis enjoyed teaching, farming, officiating, and spending lots of time at kids' and grandchildren's many sporting events. Riding motorcycles was another favorite pastime, even attending Sturgis for almost 20 years. Apart from his children and grandchildren, one of his proudest accomplishments was constructing the house where he raised his children and currently lived.
Dennis knew no stranger. There was always a good chance that when he entered a room there would be someone he knew and if he didn't, that conversation would start with him asking "What's your name? Where are you from? and did you know...?" He always had an interest in people's families and lineage.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his children, Tammi (Allen) Mong, Stephanie (Rob) Boeve, and Jason (Erin) Stewart, all of Beloit. Grandchildren were really his pride and joy, and he leaves behind Logan, Conner (Alyssa), and Lucas Mong, Trista (friend Michael Peters) and Talon Boeve, Emersyn and Joel Fuller, Kingston, Lennyx, and Jennings Stewart. Sisters Marilyn Myers of Little River, Kansas, and Maxine Ross (Tweed Ross II) of Manhattan, Kansas. Also, a special friend, Norlene Letourneau.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Alberta Stewart, and brother-in-law, Larry Myers.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 21, from 1 pm to 7 pm with family present from 4 pm to 6 pm at Roberts Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, at 10 am at Beloit Methodist Church, followed by burial at Round Springs Cemetery, south of Beloit, and a lunch following the burial at the Fellowship Hall at the Methodist Church.
Memorials may be given to the Beloit High School Athletic Department.
Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
