Rose Dockstader, 96

Rose M. Dockstader, age 96, passed away on October 20, 2024 at the Downs Care & Rehab Center in Downs, Kansas. She was born August 20, 1928 in Beloit, Kansas, to Forrest and Naomi Wyman.
Rose grew up in the Glen Elder area. She spent a lot of time south of Glen Elder with her Great Uncle John Blevins, where she learned to hunt and skin animals. Hunting and fishing became her passion, as well as gardening. She was an avid gardener and a good cook. For many years, Rose cleaned fish, and cleaned and dressed all kinds of wild game. She dressed out wild game for the pelts, including pheasants, ducks, geese, quail, turkey, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, beaver, fox, deer, and even skunks. She enjoyed cooking up and eating all that wild game as well.
Rose later moved to Cawker City in the mid-sixties, and lived the remainder of her life. She worked for a short while at Waconda Springs, helping friends and neighbors in their time of need, and in doing so, made many friends and acquaintances. She was self-employed most of her years cleaning and dressing wild game. Her grandsons would laugh and tell you they never saw anyone that was as fast as she was at cleaning a bird.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Dockstader; sons, Larry Wyman, Monte Dockstader and Martin Dockstader; and daughter, Diane Tietjens.
Survivors include her son, Jim Tietjens of Glen Elder; sister, Linda Billings of Downs; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 PM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Waconda Funeral Chapel in Cawker City followed by burial in the Walnut Creek Cemetery.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
Memorials may be given to the Downs Care & Rehab Center Staff.
Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
