Burton Orville Nondorf, the son of Orville F. Nondorf and Gloria C. (Peterka) Nondorf, was born November 18, 1945 in Belleville, Kansas, and passed away February 18, 2025 at the Belleville Health Care Center at the age of 79.
Burton attended schools in Belleville and Courtland, Kansas, graduating from Courtland High School. Following his graduation, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps from September 30, 1963 until his honorable discharge on October 21, 1966. He then continued in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1969.
He was united in marriage to Laurel Parsons and they were later divorced.
Burton returned to the area, where he worked for Pepsico in Salina, Kansas, and later was a salesman for Melvin Mobile Home Sales in Salina and Barleen Mobile Homes in Concordia, Kansas. He then returned to Courtland to assist his parents at the family grocery store in Courtland. In the fall of 1990, he began as a deputy with the Cloud County Sheriff's Department for several years until his retirement. After retirement, he continued with the Sheriff's department as a process server.
Burton was a member of the American Legion in Concordia and Scandia, Kansas. He also was a member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge, Courtland, Kansas, and the Scottish Rite and Isis Shrine in Salina, Kansas. Burton enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Gloria Nondorf; brother, Kenneth Nondorf; niece, Staci Wynn; and brother-in-law, Jim Russell.
Burton is survived by two sons, Charles (Jenna) Nondorf of Concordia, Kansas, and Eric (Annette) Nondorf of rural Narka, Kansas; grandchildren, Tyler Wayne Nondorf, Christian Charles Nondorf, Kelsey (Joey) Pickard, Kendall (Taylor) Walker and Abigail Knoll; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Verlee Russell of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Vernice Nondorf of Belleville, Kansas; special Munden friends; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 PM Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, 1322 19th Street, Belleville, Kansas, with Pastor Kathy Aeillo officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Courtland Cemetery, Courtland, Kansas. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Visitation and book signing will be held from 1 PM until 7 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 5 PM until 7 PM on Thursday.
