Coach Bios

D1W Assistant Coach Travis Desbien

Travis Desbien graduated from Palco High School in 2007. He was a three-sport athlete in high school, competing in football, basketball, and track. He was selected to compete in the 8-Man All-Star Game in 2007. After graduating from high school, Travis attended and graduated from Washburn University in 2014. That same year, he began teaching and coaching in Hill City. After serving as an assistant for 3 years, Travis took over as the head coach in 2017. The Ringnecks are 62-30 under coach Desbien and have made sub-state appearances in 21’, 22’, and 25’.
Travis lives with his wife Rachael, and their 6 children (Nolan, Maelyn, Ali, Parker, Ellie, and Evelyn).

D1W Assistant Coach Brant Douglas

Brant Douglas is currently the head coach of the Wichita County team in Leoti, Kansas. At this position for 8 years, he has a record of 75 wins and 15 losses. Under his leadership, the program has reached three state championship games and won a state championship in 2022. Prior to his role in Leoti, he served as an assistant coach in Houston, Texas, and in Sidney, Nebraska. In addition to coaching, Brant is the Junior-Senior High School Principal and will be transitioning to the position of Superintendent next year. He lives in Leoti with his wife, Haylie, and their three children: Baker, Briggs, and Berkley.

D1W Head Coach Brett Westrop

Brett is a 2004 graduate of South Central High School. He continued his education at Sterling College, where he played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 2009. Brett has dedicated 16 years to South Central, including 12 years as junior high head coach and the past four as high school head coach. Over his tenure as head coach, he has compiled an impressive 36–10 record. His teams’ accomplishments include the 2025 8-Man Division I State Championship, a 2024 8-Man Division I Sub-State Runner-Up finish with an 11–1 record, and a 2023 8-Man Division II State Runner-Up finish with a 9–4 record.
In addition to coaching, Brett is a Rule 10 coach and ranches with his father. He also operates a heifer artificial insemination business. Outside of football, he enjoys hunting and supporting his daughters in their many activities.
Brett and his wife, Jaymi, have four daughters: Bretlynn, Brystol, Bryton and Bracey.

D2W Assistant Coach Kyle Finder

Head Coach at Fairfield for the past 3 seasons, where he also serves as the 6-12 Principal.  Previously, Coach Finder has been a Head Coach at Greeley County and an assistant at Sterling College.  Kyle grew up in Kingman, KS and upon graduation, attended Sterling College where he studied Education and Exercise Science.  He later earned his Masters in Educational Administration from Emporia State University.  Kyle and his wife, Breanna, currently reside in Hutchinson, KS with their 3-year old son, Tobias.

D2W Assistant Coach Mike Jenner

Dedicated the past 35 years to coaching football, serving as both an assistant and head coach. His experience spans 11-man, 8-man, and, beginning next season, 6-man football. Mike has coached at Thomas More Prep Marian, Larned, Bazine, Western Plains, andthe last 12 years as head football coach for Logan.
During his tenure at Logan, Mike led the program to four playoff appearances. Following the 24-25 season, he was named an 8-Man DII Coach of the Year finalist.
Mike teaches 7-12 English at Logan and serves as the high school girls basketball coach.
Mike and his wife, Nancy, have 4 children: Trevor, Trista, Tori, and Toni. They are also proud grandparents to three grandsons.

D2W Head Coach Matt Barnett

Matt Barnett has been the head football coach at Central Christian School in Hutchinson for the last three seasons. He was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for two seasons prior. Their overall record is 25-7 during his time as head coach. Matt grew up in LaCrosse, KS and graduated high school in Leavenworth, KS. He attended Manhattan Christian College and studied Business Management and Ethics. Matt has been married to his wife, Camille, for 21 years and they have 6 beautiful children. They have called Hutchinson their home for over 20 years.

D1E Assistant Coach Matt Fowler

Matt Fowler graduated from Lockwood High School in Lockwood, Missouri in 2003.  He attended Sterling College, played football for the Warriors and graduated in 2008.  Matt began his teaching and coaching career at Spearville High School where he served as head football coach for 9 years.  For the past 8 years he has been the head coach at Oswego High School.  He also serves as 6-12 P.E. teacher and coaches JH track.  
During his 17 years as a head football coach at Spearville and Oswego, Coach Fowler has an all-time record of 109-60.  His 2015 Spearville team won the 8-Man D1 State championship.  This is his 3rd time coaching in the KEMFA All Star Game (2016, 2017).
Matt has been married to his wife, Beth for 17 years.  They have two children: Timothy and Lydia.

D1E Assistant Coach Nate Teichgraeber

Nate is going into his 21st year in education overall, and 11th year as head coach (4th at Madison) He teaches Government and U.S. History at Madison HS. At Madison, Nate is the Head football, assistant track, and powerlifting coach. Madison is 20-10 in 3 years under Nate's guidance, including a regional championship in '24, an LCL title in '25, and a regional runner up in '25.

D1E Head Coach Colby Hamel

Colby Hamel graduated from Lakin High School in 2011, where he was a four-sport athlete. He continued his football career at Hutchinson Community College, Garden City Community College, and Fort Hays State University, starting 47 collegiate games before graduating in 2015. He also spent one season playing arena football with the Wichita Force.
After college, Hamel began his teaching and coaching career in Lakin while earning his teaching certificate through FHSU then completing a master’s degree in education.
Now in his fourth appearance coaching the Kansas 8-Man All-Star Football Game, Hamel serves as head football coach, athletic director, teacher, strength and conditioning coordinator, and multi-sport coach at Lincoln High School. In 2025, he led Lincoln to an historic 11-2 season, the program’s first postseason win, and its deepest playoff run ever, culminating in a state runner-up finish.
Colby and his wife, Delaney, a mental health therapist for the Lincoln school system, have three children: Aubrie (8), Nova (7), and Rudy (4).

D2E Assistant Coach Nick Anderson

Graduated from Frankfort High School in 2000. He played under Hall of Fame coach, Larry Schroeder, and was a member of the 1996 State Championship team and the 1998 State Runner-Up team. Nick graduated from Kansas State University in 2004 with a Masters. He transitioned to teaching in 2006 and has been the Business teacher at Frankfort for the past 20 years. Nick served as the head boys basketball coach for six years and led his team to the 1A State tournament in 2020. Anderson became the head high school football coach in 2016. Over the past 10 seasons, Frankfort has won a total of 66 games and has won at least one playoff game each of the past eight seasons. Coach Anderson’s teams won Sectional Championships in 2020, 2023, and 2024 and Regional Championships 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025. He served as the DII East Head Coach in 2024. Nick has been married to his wife Sandi for 21 years. They have three children; Wes, Shayne, & Collin. Wes will be playing for the DII East squat in this year’s All-Star game.

D2E Assistant Coach T Kuhlman

Finished up his fifth year leading a rebuilt program that had not completed a full 8-man season since 2018 when he took over. In that time, he has guided the team to an 18-29 record. Last earned a District and Regional Championships, the first district title since 2001.  He also lead the Lady Bulldog Basketball team to a State Championship this past season, as well as being named SIK 1A DII Coach of the Year for the past two season, along with SIK All-Classes Coach of the Year in 2026.  He will also represent 1A DII at the KBCA All-Star Basketball game after being named Coach of the Year. He is supported by his wife, Dani, and son, Sawyer.

D2E Head Coach Nick McAnulty

Nick McAnulty is the head football coach at Crest High School. He began his coaching career in 2016 as an assistant coach at Iola High School before spending the 2017 and 2018 seasons as an assistant coach at Baldwin High School.
McAnulty became the head coach at Crest in 2019 and has led the Lancers for the past seven seasons, compiling a 38-29 record. During his tenure, Crest has captured two Three Rivers League championships (2020 and 2022), a district championship in 2020, and a regional championship in 2020.
McAnulty has been married to his wife, Lora, for one year, and the couple welcomed their son in February, 2026.
