Karen Sue "Susie" Walker (Dennis) was born on January 12, 1947, in Fort Collins, Colorado, the daughter of Earl and Betty (Sperr) Dennis. She died Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 77.
Susie grew up in Estes Park, Colorado, and graduated from Estes Park High School in 1965. She married her husband, Larry Walker, February 20, 1971, and lived in Beloit, Kansas. Following the birth of their son in 1973, Michael, she attended nursing school and graduated as an LPN in 1976. She worked as a nurse caring for people for 29 years, culminating in the ownership of a successful private adult care home in McPherson, Kansas. In 2005 she stepped away from nursing and opened two businesses with Larry in Beloit, The Mill House Bed and Breakfast and Susie's Cupboard. The kitchen store was the apple of her eye, which she truly loved. In 2012, after taking care of her family, patients and businesses, she retired to enjoy spending time with Larry and relaxing at home.
Susie was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved taking care of and decorating her home, enjoyed cooking, and had a passion for artwork coloring and crafts. Anyone who knew Susie, knew she was a very spirited individual and was always fun to have a conversation with about many various topics.
In her later years, after the passing of Larry, she had many friends and family that looked after her and made sure she was taken care of by running errands, getting groceries, providing companionship, and much more, which she was truly grateful for.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother.
Susie is survived by her son, Michael and his wife Jennifer; as well as grandchildren, Jace, Olivia, Ashton; great-grandchild, Cora; and a host of other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Hilltop Lodge Assisted Living for being her home over the past two years and the Staff for providing her with the care and companionship she needed. We would also like to thank Mitchell County Hospital Staff, and especially Dr. Christine Marozas for taking care of her and showing extreme compassion to make sure all her personal and medical needs were met.
Visitation will be from 1 PM to 7 PM, with family present from 4 PM to 6 PM Wednesday, January 8, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.
Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
