Flooding and Flash Flooding Across North Central Kansas

Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for eastern Mitchell County

until 1130 am CDT...

At 828 am CDT...National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the warned area.
Rainfall of 2 to 3 inches has already fallen with another inch
possible.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Beloit...Asherville...Scottsville...Simpson and Victor.

Rainfall of 2.75 inches has fallen in Beloit.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood related deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
bridges...dips...or other low spots if water covers the roadway.
Never try to cross a flowing stream...even a small one...on foot or
in a vehicle.

northeastern Osborne...southwestern Jewell and Smith counties until
1000 am CDT...

At 814 am CDT...National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the warned area. 2 to
almost 5 inches of rain has fallen across the warned area. More
thunderstorms will rumble across the area this through 10 am...with
another inch or so of rain possible...especially around Portis and
Downs. Over 4 inches of rain was reported in Downs.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Athol...Bellaire...Cawker City...Downs...Glen Elder...Harlan...
hunter...Ionia...Lebanon...Portis...Smith Center and Tipton.

The South Fork of the Solomon river downstream of Gaylord to Glen
Elder Reservoir is in flood...and will continue in flood through
tonight. Flooding is likely along the following creeks...Dry
Creek...Twelve Mile creek...and the Little Oak and Oak Creek. The
Carr Creek south of the lake is likely in flood.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of small creeks
and streams...highways and underpasses. Additionally...country roads
and farmlands along the banks of creeks...streams and other low lying
areas are also subject to flooding.

The Flood Warning continues for
  the North Fork Solomon near Portis.
* At  8:30 am Wednesday the stage was 19.2 feet. 
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet. 
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. 
* Forecast...the river will continue rising to near 24.0 feet by this
  evening. The river will fall below flood stage tomorrow evening.
* At 25.0 feet...widespread flooding occurs in low lying areas.  The 
town of Portis and the bridge on Highway 281 are not threatened by 
flooding.  A record flood of 28.5 feet occurred in July of 1951.
