Dorothy F. Morford, 88, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Logan Manor, Logan. She was born October 9, 1928 in Long Island, KS, the daughter of Vernon and Rosie (Taylor) Shearer. She graduated from Almena Rural High School with the class of 1946. On June 16, 1947 she married Henry Edgett, to the union four children were born, Nevin, Edde, Diane & Nyla, later they were divorced. On September 16, 1961 she married Francis Morford and gained a son, Wayne. She and Francis then made their home on a farm south of Almena. In the early years she was an assistant to Dr. Lathrop, orthodontist in Norton before becoming a Licensed Mental Health Technician working for the State of Kansas at both the Norton State and Larned State Hospitals during her career. She also enjoyed the outdoors and had a green thumb, one of her favorite things to grow were tomatoes. Another hobby she enjoyed was leather tooling and made billfolds, belts, purses and other items for family and friends. However, her love was of horses and spending as much time with them as possible. One of her favorite horses was a strawberry roan named Gypsy whom she later sold to a woman in New Mexico, who rode Gypsy in the Rose Bowl Parade.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Roy) Stutterheim of Prairie View, Nyla (Craig) Gebhard of Long Island; a son, Wayne (Roma) Morford of Phillipsburg; five brothers, Gerald (Anita) Shearer of Norton, Dean Shearer of Norton, Roger Shearer of Long Island, Eldon (Lois) Shearer of Alma, NE, Lonnie (Pat) Shearer of Almena; one sister, Doris Linden of Norton; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Shearer of Edmond, Elaine Shearer of Almena; 9 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francis on January 9, 2008, parents, two infant sons, Nevin & Edde Edgett, two brothers, Dale & Arnold Shearer, an infant brother, a brother-in-law, Guy Linden, and two sisters-in-law, Nellie & Karen Shearer.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2016 at the United Methodist Church, Long Island, with Pastors Ted Stapleton and Terry Worthington officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 17th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center and Monday, December 19th, from 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Almena. Memorials may be given to the Logan Manor, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Alzheimer's Association and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel, All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S.
