Kimberly Joan (McClain) Schwant, 50, of Blaine, Kansas, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kim was born August 20, 1966, in Smith Center, Kansas, the daughter of Jack and Edith Scott McClain. She grew up on a farm in the Gaylord community and attended local schools. She graduated from Smith Center High School 1984. Kim was active growing up in 4-H and sports. She had a lovely singing voice and enjoyed singing in the Gaylord Community Church choir and for her grandmother McClain at the Portis Methodist Church.
Kim then attended Ft. Hays State University where she was member of the flag team. She graduated in 1989 with a BS Degree in Criminal Science.
Kim began her career as a Parole Officer in Garden City. She then moved to Liberal and then Topeka. She worked in Topeka for the Department of Corrections for seventeen years until her death. Kimberly was a member of Family Community Education / FCE, Order of Eastern Star in Kansas City, and the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. But her greatest love was her family. She loved cheering on her children and all the children she mothered. The kids could always hear "Mamma Kim's" voice above the crowd. Kim enjoyed assisting with 4-H and all sports, but especially Wrestling and Summer ball.
Kim married Corey Jay Schwant on November 3, 2001, in Wheaton, Kansas. He survives at their home.
She is also survived by her children; Cody Schwant, Manhattan, Destiney Schwant and Kaid Schwant, of the home; her parents, Jack and Edith McClain, Gaylord; sister, Jacqueline Kremer (Brian), Roeland Park; nephew, Jack Kremer; niece, Stevie Leah Kremer; Father and Mother-in-law, Dennis and Ireta Schwant, Blaine; and sister-in-law, Robin Fox, Onaga. Kim was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernest and Fannie McClain, Charles and Jackie Scott, and "Grandma" Margie Dannenberg Abernathy, and brother-in-law, Scott Fox.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, at the Church, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to the Kimberly Schwant Memorial Fund to be designated later by the family, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Kufahl Funeral Home in Wheaton. A second memorial service will also be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, Kansas, with inurnment to follow in Gaylord Cemetery.
