Lloyd R. “Mac” McConnell, 85

Lloyd Ross McConnell, 85, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at Downs Care & Rehab Center.
Mr. McConnell was born December 31, 1935 in Downs, Kansas, to Wiley and Mabel (Knieling) McConnell. He attended and graduated from Downs High School in 1954. He attended U.S. Trade School for mechanics in Kansas City. His work career took him to Hill City, Beloit, Cawker City, and led him back to Downs where he worked for LeRoy Brees and Kenny Watts at B&W Service from 1957-1997.
Mac enjoyed fishing with friends and playing pool at the Senior Center, as well as delivering meals for them for 10 years. He was an avid KU Jayhawk and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He watched every game he could along with watching NASCAR. Mac loved woodworking and made several items around his home as well as gifts for family and friends.
Mr. McConnell is preceded in death by his parents, Wiley in 1983, and Mabel in 1996 and cousin, Fred Carnes. He is survived by first cousins: Dodee Gasper of Longmont, Colorado, Sharon McDaniel of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Mardella Rous of Hays, Kansas, and Waunita Carnes of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kenneth Knieling of Tennessee and Barbara Knieling of Utah and special friend, Kathy Begnoche.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Downs Senior Center.
