Allan D. Gaskill, 85

Allan D. Gaskill was born on April 21, 1936 to Orville and Georgia (Wolf) Gaskill. He died on his 85th birthday, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Broadstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska.
He graduated from Beloit High School in 1954. While he was in high school and in his early years, he participated in baseball, tennis, pool, as well as basketball and golf.
He worked in the newspaper business for over 35 ½ years. He started his career by delivering newspapers, and ended up owning and publishing the Cambridge Clarion. He worked in Beloit, Ulysses, Ellsworth, and Downs, Kansas, before moving to Cambridge, Nebraska, in 1967. Everyone looked forward to reading his weekly column, entitled "Observations by the Editor", and his extensive area sports coverage. Allan received numerous photography and newspaper awards. He was recognized by the Nebraska School Activities Association for his service to Cambridge and surrounding schools.
In his spare time, Allan enjoyed playing weekly golf within his favorite foursome. When he retired, he continued to play in Senior Golf Tournaments in Nebraska and Kansas. He also enjoyed fishing in his retirement years.
Allan married Janice Koster on June 1, 1957 in Cawker City, Kansas, and to this union were born two children, Scott Allan and Jill Rene. On July 11, 1998, he married Donna Haskins at their home in Cambridge. They moved to Superior in 2011 to be closer to family.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Superior; son, Scott (Cindy) Gaskill of Aurora, Nebraska; daughter, Jill (Sean) Gooden of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren, Chloe, Levi, and Rhett Gooden, and Callie and Brent Gaskill; great-granddaughter, Hazel Rae; two sisters, Karen Gaskill of Manhattan, Kansas, and Diana (Ray) Frasier of Minneapolis, Kansas; step-daughters, Brenda (John) Wisbey of Glasco, Sherry (Brad) Nelson of Jamestown, and their families; as well as a niece Kelly Lott, and nephew Gerry Plush and their families.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother-in-law, Gary Plush.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Monday, April 26, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday before the service.
Memorials may be given to the Broadstone Memorial Hospital in Superior.
