Don A. Nickerson, 77, of Scandia, Kansas, passed away on April 27, 2021 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas.
Don was born December 3, 1943 in Belleville, Kansas, to Donald O. and Lorene A. (Macy) Nickerson.
After graduating high school in 1961, Don joined the U. S. Navy. During his 20 year career, Don served as a combat medic in Vietnam and ended as a Chief Petty Officer in hospital administration before retiring in 1981.
Don returned to Kansas to near family, retiring as a rural mail carrier for the Postal Service.
On January 3, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mary E. "Betty" Desroches.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Charlotte Currie.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary (Betty) Nickerson of Scandia, Kansas; daughter, Kim (Tim) Hunsinger of Lawrence, Kansas; one brother, Duane (Carol) Nickerson of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Robert Currie of Goodland, Kansas; nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends.
Cremation was selected and family memorial graveside services will be held at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas, at a later date.
