Alberta M. Hake, 84

Alberta Marie Hennes Hake died Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Mitchell County Hospital. She was born June 11, 1937 to Fred and Agnes Hennes. She was the fifth of nine children. Alberta attended St. John's Catholic High School in Beloit and graduated in 1955.
Alberta, better known as Bertie, was married to Norman (Blitz) Hake on April 12, 1958. They celebrated 63 years together last April. To this unity five children were born. Raising these five kids was her challenge and her love. Watching this legacy of love, grow into five more families, and more than 35 grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her heart.
Bertie carried many part-time jobs throughout her life. She started out as a switchboard operator for the telephone company, did bookkeeping, clerical work, sewing and even pheasant cleaning. Through it all she dedicated her life to her family and friends. There wasn't a minute of her day that went by without her thinking about what someone in her life needed and how she could help them. Her selfless, giving nature was recognized and admired by everyone who knew her.
When she did take time for herself, she loved sewing, going to the lake with the family, golfing, and traveling with friends. Oh, she loved to sew! As a self-taught master seamstress, she loved the challenge of creating something beautiful with her hands, whether it was a magnificent quilt, a barbie doll dress, dress up clothes for grandkids or even costumes for high school one-act plays. Swimming, boating and water skiing with family and friends at the lake filled many summer weekends. On the golf course, it was more about the friendships that were made than love of the game that kept her coming back. And the memories made during the trips she took with friends brought her much joy in her later years.
Alberta is survived by her husband Norman; her children Brian and Barb Hake of Omaha, Gery and Stacie Hake of Tipton, Rodney and Sandy Hake of Tipton, Sondra and Brad Palen of Salina, Kansas, and Russell and Shawna Hake of Marion, Kansas. She also had 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Joshua Palen; four brothers, Jim, Richard, Robert and Fred; two sisters, Mary Lou Ellenz and Peg Koenigsman. She is survived by two sisters, Rosie Emerick of Ridgeway, Pennsylvania, and Mona Hennes of Warren, New Jersey.
Alberta was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society.
She worked many jobs throughout her life. She began working as a telephone operator and worked many part-time jobs including Pfeiffer's Grocery Store, Ellenz of Tipton, Hake Grain Co., Ring Neck Ranch and Carey's of Downs, along with raising five children. Alberta loved sewing and quilting and spent many hours in her sewing room creating numerous beautiful quilts and clothes for the kids and grandkids. She was an incredible seamstress and cook. Her famous sweetbread was loved by all.
