The Mitchell County Commissioners conducted their weekly meeting at the Courthouse Monday morning, May 2. All Commissioners and the County Clerk were present.
David Dohe, Emergency Management Director, was present to request the Commissioners to sign a disaster mitigation plan. This was a plan signed by the Commissioners five years ago. Signing the current document indicated they were still in agreement with the provisions of the plan. The Commissioners all signed the document indicating their acceptance of the disaster mitigation plan for five more years.
Dohe reported the Mass Casualty Exercise at the Technical College last week was much more complete than any previous ones.
Barb Wise, representing Pawnee Mental Health, was on hand to request the Commissioners sign a proclamation indicating May as Mental Health month in Mitchell County. She said the month of May has been observed as Mental Health month since 1949. Wise told the Commissioners that Pawnee Mental Health serves over 200 residents of Mitchell County each year. It started out in 1973 and was known as Sunflower Mental Health with the goal of helping those with substance abuse concerns as well as personal counseling issues.
The Commissioners unanimously proclaimed May as Mental Health Month in Mitchell County.
Eric Hamel, Emergency Medical Services director, reported that the high winds last week destroyed a storage shed south of the ambulance barn. He requested and received authority to purchase a replacement shed.
The Commissioners discussed a "for profit" fireworks sale permit from Jacob Marietta, with the local contact being Mike Weidenhaft. The location of their fireworks business would be at 203 N. Independence. Permission for the permit was granted.
