Paul E. Buresh, 80

Paul E. Buresh, son of James J. and Mildred I. (Holmquist) Buresh, was born on November 29, 1942 at rural Oak, Nebraska. He passed away on January 9, 2023 at Brodstone Healthcare in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 11 days.
Paul attended school in Oak through the 8th grade and graduated from Nelson High School in 1961. After high school he worked for the railroad until enlisting in the U.S. Army. After serving from 1964 to 1966, stationed in Germany, Paul returned to Nebraska to begin work for Urbauer Furniture in Davenport.
Paul was united in marriage to Marcia Wheeland on April 29, 1967 in Nelson, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two sons, Scott and Shawn. Paul and Marcia lived in Davenport until 1970 when Paul took his love for electronics and opened Nelson TV Center. While selling and servicing TV's, stereos and appliances, Paul wanted to bring cable television to Nelson and enlisted the help of Steve Clabaugh and Wayne Garrison to build the system. Later he became the sole owner of the business, eventually selling it to Cable USA of Kearney. Paul operated Nelson TV Center for 24 years until 1994. At that time, he began working at the University of Nebraska at Kearney as the electronics engineer in the Mass Communications Department. While there he designed and built the radio station, modernized the communications department and very much enjoyed working with the students and faculty at UNK. He was recognized as UNK Employee of the Month in 1997 and also received the KUDO Award for outstanding service to the University. He worked at UNK until his retirement in 2004.
Paul served as Mayor of Nelson and on the City Council, was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, the American Legion, Nelson Fire Dept., and Nuckolls County Democratic Chairman. He was an avid "Ham" radio operator and a member of the Amateur Radio Association of Nebraska.
Paul enjoyed traveling, especially to the Hawaiian Islands and cruises to the Caribbean. Another favorite pastime was spending hours walking the Little Blue River in search of artifacts and arrowheads with his sons and grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Joann Buresh; brother, Tom Buresh; brothers-in-law, Jack Wheeland, Barry Williams and Lonnie Wheeland.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia of Nelson; sons, Scott (Kim) Buresh of Sturgeon, Missouri, and Shawn Buresh of Nelson; grandchildren, Carter Buresh of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Graham Buresh of Sturgeon, Missouri; brother, Mike (Ellen) Buresh of Davenport, Nebraska; sister, RoxAnn (Roger) Casebolt of Franklin, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Mary Wheeland of Nelson and Linda Williams of Ely, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial Services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Nelson Community United Church of Christ, Nelson, Nebraska. Pastor Ivan and Joyce Dean will officiate.
Inurnment with Military Honors will be in Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to Nelson Fire Department/Rescue Squad.
