Edna M Maley, 97

Edna Margaret Maley, the daughter of Lawrence and Lillian (Spinn) Wolf, was born on March 21, 1925, in Gaylord, KS. She passed away on January 13, 2023, at the Reflections Senior Living in Dodge City, KS at the age of 97 years, 9 months, 23 days.

Edna attended high school in Harlan, KS. On November 1, 1942, she was united in marriage to James Maley in Smith Center, KS, and after Jim’s return from the Army they lived in Beloit, KS, later moving to Superior, NE. To this union was born two children, Joyce Ann and Larry Lee.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Superior, active in the church and community, as well as the Lydia Circle. Edna and Jim enjoyed camping, especially in the Ozarks, and working in the garden. They traveled to many craft shows throughout their years together and shared their creative spirit through their arts and crafts. Her sewing room was always a marvel of fabrics, colors, trinkets, and ideas in-the-making. She was especially gifted at creating quilts and there were always a few in progress which remain treasures and provide warmth for the soul, to this day. No detail went overlooked from the clean house, fresh baked goods and new hand towel every other day to the tireless commitment to her family, their happiness, and creating memories to last the ages.

Edna Maley was a treasure, a one-of-a-kind, a true angel on earth. Her faith guided her through life and she in turn served as a guide to those around her. She lived her life with grace, poise, and compassion. She exuded wisdom, truth, and trust, with a moral compass, like no other. Family, friends, and strangers were blessed by her warm smile, her loving nature, her gentle touch, and her genuine laugh. She represents the epitome of what it means to be a daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, friend, neighbor, and reliable stranger.

There truly aren’t enough ways to say how special she was and will always be to this world. It was a brighter place with her in it. As her husband Jim often sang to her, “You are my sunshine”, she will forever be our sunshine.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, son Larry, and grandson Jason Rumbaugh, sisters Ruth Post, Tollie Carle, Marion Bloomfield, brothers Albert Wolf, Robert Wolf, Raymond Bloomfield, and niece Lillie Louise Wolf.

She is survived by her daughter Joyce Rumbaugh and husband Jerry of Dodge City, KS, grandson Jeff Rumbaugh and wife Lisa of Dodge City, KS, granddaughter Jennifer Rumbaugh of Manhattan, KS and grandson Travis Maley of Omaha, NE. Eight great-grandchildren, Tanner Rumbaugh (and Samanth) of Dodge City, Lauren Bromm (and Spencer) of Craig, NE and Blake Rumbaugh of Dodge City, Marquis, Messina, Mariana and Mariela Maley of Scottsbluff as two great-great-grandchildren, Emery and Cayson Rumbaugh (of Tanner) of Dodge City, and daughter-in-law Jean Maley of Scottsbluff, NE, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
