Stephen John Aksamit was born October 4, 1945 to Bill and Rose (Kucera) Aksamit. He grew up on the family farm three miles south of Deweese, Nebraska. He attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School and graduated from Nelson High School. After graduation he attended a trade school for auto body repair. He served in the Army from December 14, 1965 to December 1, 1967. He lived in Hastings, Nebraska, for some time but spent the majority of his adult life serving as the operator of the family farm.
Steve was true to his schooling and liked his vehicles and equipment to be in good condition. He enjoyed dealing with his cattle and was very fond of the farm cats.
He was a great fan of Gunsmoke and the many other westerns he watched as a child.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Ron Aksamit; and sister, Becky Aksamit. He is survived by his sister, Ginny (Aksamit) Haddix, and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese, Nebraska, Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Jamie Hottovy will officiate. Rosary will be 9:30 a.m. before his funeral mass.
Inurnment will be in Assumption Cemetery, Deweese, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given in care of the family.
