Floriene Rosalie Spielman Walker was born at home on a Sunday morning on September 20, 1925, in Prairie Township, Jewell County, Kansas, to Walter Jacob and Nancy Dorothea Warburton Spielman. She attended church at the neighborhood "Star" Church. She was baptized in the Jewell Methodist Church, later transferring to the Beloit First UMC where she continued to be a long-time member. She attended Star Rural School where she especially enjoyed participating in teacher Raleigh Weir's acrobatic troop. She later graduated with class of 1943 from Jewell Rural High School. Floriene was happy to have had both grandfathers' homestead in the township she was born in.
On August 26, 1954, she married her friend and soulmate, Raymond Walker, at the Methodist Church in Beloit. To this union, two daughters were born: Nancy Raelene and Joyce Ruth. They moved to the current farm in 1959 where she loved living in the country doing the many things involving a farm life. Her home was very near and dear to her along with her love of being a mother to her daughters and mother figure for many others. She greatly appreciated her friendships in the church women's meetings and the Garden Club. Floriene had a gift of compassion and connecting with those who were hurting and needed comfort with her quiet and humble spirit.
An attraction to Floriene were hills and a highlight was climbing numerous hills. The one in the farm pasture was very special to her and holds a cross built by neighbors in honor of her husband, Raymond. Floriene especially liked walking and had walking paths she traveled for several years. For the past five years she resided at Kidron Bethel Village, North Newton, Kansas, following a stroke in October 2018. While there, she became a much loved resident and established many new friendships.
Raymond passed from her life on May 25, 2014. Also preceding her in death were her four brothers, Hubert, Leslie, Lindy Eugene, and Stuart.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are daughters, Raelene (Ron) Kite of Newton, Kansas, and Joyce (Steve) Marsh of Wichita, Kansas; grandson, Cody Ray Campbell of Overland Park, Kansas, and his father Sam; step-grandsons, Dustin (Morgan) Marsh and daughter Daphne of Wichita, Kansas, Daniel (Taylor) Marsh and daughter Norah of Wichita, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
