Claude J. "Doc" Harwood left this earthly life on November 17, 2023, at the age of 98. He was born June 12, 1925 in Larned, Kansas to Claude Jesse and Tola Mae (Peters) Harwood.
Claude graduated from Larned High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Europe during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning from service, Claude enrolled at the University of Kansas where he studied medicine. While there he met the love of his life, Marilyn Lindberg. They were married on June 3, 1951 in Topeka, Kansas.
In 1956, having completed his degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Claude began his medical career in Glasco, Kansas, and the surrounding areas. Affectionately known as "Doc," he practiced Family Medicine for 34 years before retiring in 1990.
During retirement Doc spent many hours watching the grandchildren's activities and sporting events. At the age of 80 he had the opportunity to take an adult beginner violin class. He then enjoyed spending many Tuesday mornings playing music with friends at the Corner Store in Glasco.
Doc was a man of strong faith with a quiet, optimistic nature and a wealth of knowledge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marilyn. He is survived by son, Larry Harwood of Glasco; daughter, Susan (Jim) Campion of Salina, Kansas; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kylee Campion, Salina, Garrett Campion and partner Riley Robert, Lafayette, Colorado, Cara (Eric) Payne, Watson, Emery and Owen, Wichita, Kansas, Kevin (Emily) Campion, Josie and Charley, Ft. Collins, Colorado.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Glasco Christian Church.
Donation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Glasco Christian Church, Glasco Community Foundation, or The Nicol Home.
