The Mitchell County Commissioners conducted their weekly meeting at the Courthouse Monday morning, February 5. All Commissioners and the County Clerk were present.
Missy McGinnis, Director of the Emergency Medical Service, was present along with two of her EMT Specialists, Melissa Mahin and Andrew Allen.
She spoke to the Commissioners about bills that are way past due and all efforts to collect from the customers have failed. The total number of accounts are thirteen with a balance of $5,642.07. It is customary for the Commissioners to bite the bullet on such debts when all methods of collection have failed. The Commissioner voted to write off these debts as uncollectible.
Marty Hernandez, Superintendent of Public Works, also reported the Landfill has experience long overdue bills with all efforts to collect them unsuccessful. Hernandez reported thirteen accounts with a total of $103.70. The Commissioners voted to write off these accounts as uncollectible.
Hernandez also reported the door on the lower level at the trash pit was worn out and needed replaced. He had one bid for a 12'x14' door at $10,178.50. The Commissioners thought that was a reasonable price but asked Hernandez to get two more bids if possible in the sake of competitive bidding.
Emily Benedick was present to discuss the Neighborhood Revitalization Grant. She said the City of Beloit, Cawker City, Glen Elder, Tipton and U.S.D #272 have signed an interlocal agreement to participate in the program. U.S.D. #273 Beloit has opted out of participation in the program for the following year.
Benedick also reported she has received a CVR grant. The purpose of the grant is to stimulate and assist local business. The example of a local restaurant needing new seating as an acceptable request for grant funds. The grant of $141,000 will be available via applications available at her office. When the money has been expended, the program will end.
David Dohe, Emergency Management Director, reported the first responders have received a HMEP grant to provide for training activities which will enhance their abilities to help others.
