Gary Wayne Peterson was born to Roland and Mable (Hill) Peterson on September 4, 1951 in Beloit, Kansas. He departed this life on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Eskridge, Kansas, where he had lived for the past 17 years.
Gary attended the Beloit schools. He loved to fish and swim in the river. Gary and his sister, Carolyn, taught their siblings how to swim after taking swimming lessons themselves. They would also ride around in cars together. Gary worked at Kent Manufacturing in his youth. He loved to ride his bicycle everywhere. You would see him around town waving at everyone! He did not know a stranger. He lived under the Chautauqua Park bridge for many years.
After he left Beloit, Gary lived at Osawatomie until he moved to Eskridge. Gary would smash cans, play cards, go to rodeos and especially loved going to the Kansas City Royals baseball games. He had a special love of cheeseburgers, funnel cakes and ice cream.
Gary loved to write letters. He would write two or three a week. He had excellent penmanship.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ivan, Kevin, Glen and Marilyn. Gary is survived by siblings, John Peterson and Carolyn Blase, also many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home & Monuments in Beloit.
Graveside services will be on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the Randall Cemetery, Randall, Kansas, with Pastor Dan Daniels officiating.
Memorials may be given to Mitchell County Food Pantry.
