Max Virgil McMains, 16

Max Virgil McMains passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born in Superior, Nebraska, on July 14, 2008 to Nate and Tessa (Core) McMains. He was the middle child with two brothers, Mason and Morgan.
Max grew up in Burr Oak, Kansas, and attended school at Rock Hills in Mankato, Kansas. Max was a sophomore at Rock Hills High School and an active member of the FFA.
When Max was younger and you couldn't find him, just step outside and follow the trail of clothes. You would find him swimming in the creek with his brothers. He has always had a love for the outdoors. Some of his favorite hobbies were riding horses, dirt bikes, and 4-wheelers, hunting, fishing, and working alongside his dad and grandpa Larry.
Max lived his life by the motto "Work hard, play hard." He was stubborn but had a huge heart. He was always helpful, unless you wanted him to do the dishes. Max loved children and earned his nickname of the Baby Whisperer.
There are two types of people in this world, those that knew Max and those that didn't know him - yet.
Max will be dearly missed by his parents, Nate McMains and Jackie, Tessa McMains and Guthrie; siblings, Mason and Morgan McMains, all of Burr Oak, Kansas; grandparents, Kevin and Claudette Noble of Belleville, Kansas, and Larry and Shirley McMains of Burr Oak, Kansas; great-grandmother, Sheila Sjoholm of Hardy, Nebraska; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Tracy Core and Jeanie McMains, and uncle Bradley Cusatis, Jr.
Funeral services will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Rock Hills High School with Pastor Larry Jensby officiating. Burial will follow at Burr Oak Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at Melby Mortuary on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
