Robert Schreiner, 98, of Downs, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, in Downs.
Born September 12, 1926, in Oklahoma, he was the son of John and Edith Schreiner. He graduated from Watonga High School in 1945. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where he graduated with a degree in education.
Robert married Ruth Johnson in Wichita, Kansas, on August 8, 1953. They made their longtime home in Mulvane, Kansas, where he taught drafting and woodworking at Mulvane High School for 37 years. They moved to Harper, Kansas, in 1972. Ruth had a long career as a nurse in Wichita, Wellington and Harper.
Robert and Ruth retired in Downs in 1990. They were active in the Senior Center and enjoyed going to auctions and playing cards with friends. Robert spent many hours on his woodworking projects in his shop. He donated many dollhouses for auctions to benefit the Downs Senior Center. He also loved reading, collecting stamps and coins and keeping up with his family.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife and their son, John, and their great-grandchildren, Shelby Schreiner and Sawyer Keller.
His family includes his sons, Bruce (Vicky) of Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Brian (Shannon) of Hays, Kansas. His grandchildren: John (Melanie) Schreiner of Downs, Kansas; Jesse (Paige) Schreiner of Russell, Kansas; Laura (Rob) Schreiner of Bladen, Nebraska; Keri (Josh Solinger) Schreiner of River Falls, Wisconsin; Eric (Kacey) Schreiner of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Shawn Ballinger of Hays, Kansas. His great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Ava and Ethan Schreiner; Olivia Schreiner, Jonah Schreiner, Liam Schreiner, Lilly Regreth; Abigail, Eloise and Lane Keller.
Funeral services will be at Schoen Funeral Home & Monuments, 1001 Morgan Ave., Downs, Kansas, Friday, October 25, at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until the service.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 26, at Watonga Cemetery, Watonga, Oklahoma.
