John L. Bingham, 85

John Leroy Bingham, the son of Albert S. Bingham and Olive E. (Kelly) Bingham, was born October 7, 1939 in Belleville, Kansas, and passed away on November 6, 2024 at Mitchell County Health Systems, Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 85 years.
John grew up in his early years in Belleville, attending the local rural grade schools. He later moved with his family to Lawrence, Kansas, where he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1958.
He served with the United States Army and was discharged on January 31, 1968. John served as a Personnel Actions Supervisor at the Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland from May of 1964 until January of 1965.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Lawrence, Kansas, where attended the University of Kansas, attaining his law degree. He then began work for the State of Kansas for Governor Robert Docking as a parole attorney in Topeka, Kansas. He then established his law practice in Lawrence, Kansas, where he practiced for many years. John returned to Belleville, Kansas, in 1994 and opened a Law Office. In 1999, he was appointed Magistrate Judge for Jewell County, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 2017.
He was married to Betty Bingham and they were later divorced. In September of 2001, he was united in marriage to Judy Hesket. The couple made their home in Mankato, Kansas, and she survives.
John was a member of the American Legion of Jewell, Kansas, and still maintained his membership.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Olive Bingham, and son, Daniel Hesket.
John is survived by his wife, Judy Bingham of Mankato, Kansas; three daughters, Debbie (Dan) Carl of North Platte, Nebraska, Diane Sanpaka of Kiowa, Kansas, and Sharon Sahlfeld of Beloit, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Vallie Hesket; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas, with Pastor Mark McGregor officiating.
Interment will follow at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard, Ft. Riley, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 1 PM until 8 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas. The family will not be present at the visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Mankato Volunteer Fire Dept. or Jewell County EMS.
