Peggy Arlene (Thompson) Mullen, 76, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, at her home in Kirwin, KS, after a short battle with ALS.
Peggy was born on February 19, 1949, in Manhattan, KS, to Wayne Merrill and Eula Arlene (Bock) Thompson. On December 28, 1971, she married Kirby Francis Mullen of Downs, KS, at the Oak Creek Christian Church, Lebanon, KS. To this union, they were blessed with three sons: Shane, Patrick, and Cody. Peggy was a physical therapist working in Pratt, Great Bend, Phillipsburg and numerous nursing homes, hospitals and PT clinics in Kansas and Nebraska.
She was a member of: VFW Auxiliary of Osborne; Cedar Christian Church (where she was pianist); Oak Creek Christian Church Community Association (to restore Oak Creek Christian Church); Cowboy Fast Draw Association (CFDA); Solomon Valley Players Re-enactment Group; South Fork of the Solomon Rendezvous Muzzle Loaders of Osborne; Outdoor Youth Fair, Osborne; and Little Bit Players of Kirwin. She was also active in her local church, and taught Sunday School for many years. Peggy loved the Lord and always tried to point her children and grandchildren to Him.
Peggy was a free spirit and open to any adventures and went on many with Kirby. She loved traveling to see family, friends and the country. She enjoyed going to cowboy fast draw tournaments in Texas, Nevada, Nebraska and Kansas. Peggy was an accomplished seamstress, making many quilts for her grandchildren. She also loved to cook, garden and visit. Peg was "Martha" to Kirby's "Badger" of friend/author Rosie Bosse in her "Home on the Range" book series signings.
She is survived by: her husband Kirby Mullen of 54 years; three sons, Shane Mullen of Pueblo, CO; Patrick Mullen of Kirwin; Cody (Alisa) Mullen of Gothenburg, NE. Five grandchildren: Sheppard Mullen of Pueblo, CO; Keira Mullen of Pittsburg, KS; Trace (Stephanee) Mullen of Bellevue, NE; Cassidy (Ryan) Olsen of Lincoln, NE; Aidan (Emma) Mullen of Papillion, NE; three great-grandchildren: Declan, Scarlet, and Enya Mullen. Two sisters: Cynthia (Kent) Miller of Lake Ozark, MO; Nancy Metz of Osborne; one brother, Michael (Jennifer) Thompson of Richmond Hill, GA; nieces, nephews, and many friends and family.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2026, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Pastor Darel Boston officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in North Oak Creek Cemetery, Lebanon, KS, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2026. Memorials may be given to VFW Auxiliary of Osborne and/or Oak Creek Christian Church Community Association of Lebanon and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
