Theodore "Scott" McKain completed his earthly journey on December 20, 2025, at the age of 62, leaving behind a lifetime of hard work, quiet dedication and memories in the community he called home.
Scott was born on December 1, 1963, and spent his life in Downs after graduating from Downs High School in1982. He attended college at NCK Tech for auto mechanics. He was skilled in sewing and owned an upholstery shop for a while before moving to a counter parts salesman at Case IH in Cawker City.
He believed in showing up, working hard, and taking care of the people around him - values that guided him both personally and professionally. For 15 years Scott served as the maintenance director at Parkview Care Center. He was known for his reliability, problem solving skills, and willingness to help whenever needed. While There, he found joy in playing Santa when the community came through Parkview.
After he began his battle with cancer, Scott spent his time delivering Meals on Wheels for the Downs Senior Center. It was a role he found rewarding, bringing comfort and connection to those he served.
Scott was a devoted father as he raised his two children, TC and Beth, a role he took seriously and one of his greatest accomplishments. He led by example, providing a steady presence and a strong foundation for their lives. Nothing brought Scott more joy than his grandchildren. He cherished his time spent with them and took pride in watching them grow and was always happy to attend their events.
In his free time Scott enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing. In the evenings for many years, you could find him in his shop working on his racecar. Many friends and family would see the lights on and stop to chat for a while. He found peace outdoors and excitement at the track, appreciating the simple pleasures that brought balance to his life. He never turned down an opportunity to walk through a field or sit by a pond. He was always thankful for his harvest.
In his recent years, Scott found a deep and enduring love with Lizzy, and their marriage beautifully completed his life's puzzle. Together, they blended their families, adding son Xavier and daughter Kharsen and three cherished grandchildren to his heart. Most evenings were spent side by side, working on puzzles, sharing the quiet moments, laughter, and the simple comfort of being together - moments Scott treasured deeply.
He is survived by his loving wife Lizzy of the home, son TC (Kacey) McKain of Osborne, Kansas, daughter Beth (Matt) Homelvig of Jewell, Kansas, son Xavier Catania, daughter Kharsen Hale (Clancy Luther) of Downs, Kansas, Grandchildren Xander, Maxwell, Morgan, Mazie, Delylah, Bennett, Colter, mother in law Donna Applebee, brother Tim (Tammy) McKain of Knob Noster, Missouri, sister Velann (Wayne) Edigar of Cookeville, Tennessee, brother Loren (Ann) Edwards of Phillipsburg, Kansas, brother Harry McKain of Downs, Kansas, sister Virginia (Donnie) Pollock of Wichita, Kansas, sister Valerie Bauske of Devils Lake, North Dakota, sister in law Maggie McKain of Osborne, Kansas, sister in law Evelyn McKain of Cawker City, Kansas, many loved nieces and nephews, and many loved great nieces and nephews.
