Janice Louise Hattan, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the North Central Medical Center, Concordia, Kansas. She was born in Concordia, Kansas to Francis and Dorothy (Schrandt) Marcotte on July 3, 1952.
She was a proud farm girl who did a variety of chores growing up on a farm outside of Aurora, Kansas. She is a 1970 graduate of Concordia High School and received her associate degree from Cloud County Community College. At Cloud she was a member of the first women's basketball team.
She was united in marriage to Gregory Hattan on August 9, 1975, in Concordia. She worked for Northern Trust Bank in Chicago while Greg attended Northwestern dental school. In June 1977, they moved to Concordia where Janice worked as a para educator for over 25 years. She was a member of CCHC Auxiliary and served as president. She was also a member of the Altar Society at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
She enjoyed playing pickleball and was a loyal member of the exercise class at Dumbbells fitness where she looked forward to her weekly workouts with her friends.
Survivors include, her husband, Greg, son, Justin and wife Leah, West Des Moines, IA; daughter, Jennifer and Fiancé, Selwyn Robles, Chicago, Ill.; and foreign exchange student, daughter, Liese (Erwin) Switzerland; grandchildren, William, Charlie, and Emma Hattan; brother, Michael Marcotte, Aurora, sisters, Jeanette (Don) Deneault, Concordia, Janell (Joe) Goedert, Andover, brother-in-law, Don Collette (Rozann), Montana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Dorothy, sisters, Beverly Collette, Theresa McManigal.
Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas. A Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m., on Tuesday evening, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, with the family receiving friends after the Rosary in the Parish Hall until 8:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by Fr. Joseph Kieffer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
