Fern Louise Fisher, 97

Fern Louise Fisher, the daughter of George Arthur and Lulu (Wortman) Sykes, was born on March 16, 1929 on a farm between Oak and Ruskin, Nebraska. She passed away on June 1, 2026 at the Heritage Crossings at Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, 2 months, 16 days.

Fern was one of nine children. She attended District #41 Country School for 1st thru 8th grade, then attended Ruskin High School graduating in 1946.

On July 8, 1945 she was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church near Superior. Later transferred to Bethany Lutheran at Ruskin.

After graduation, she worked in Hebron for a year and a half, then moved to Lincoln. Working at Elgins then Union National Life Insurance Company until 1950, when she married William X. Fisher on October 22nd at Bethany Lutheran Church near Ruskin by Rev. Emmanuel Petersen. They lived in Hastings for 2 years before moving to Lincoln. After a year and a half, they moved to a farm north of Davenport and retired to Davenport in 1987. To this union four children were born.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, sisters Myrtle (John) Berman, Ruth (Enos) Hanson, Della (Harvey) Schiermeyer, brothers Harry, Rex (Myrna), Arthur (Rayoma) and Archie (Lauretta).

Survivors include, daughters, Linda (David) Baker of Lincoln, Nebraska; Lou Skrdlant of Lincoln, Nebraska; sons, David Fisher of Sutton, Keith Fisher of Omaha, Nebraska and nephew Larry who made his home with them for seven years. Seven grandchildren, Benjamin (Jamie) Baker, Kim Baker, Angie Skrdlant, Lindsey (Richard Jaramillo) Skrdlant, Ryan (Marcela Medina) Fisher, Jessie (Amanda Huckins) Fisher, Logan (JoAnna) Fisher; 8 great-grandchildren, Adrian, Ryan, and Kelly Baker, Layla Fisher, Sampson and Aster Fisher, and Graham and Wren Fisher; her sister Alice Obar of Phoenix, Arizona; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and host of friends.
