Judith Ann (Woodman) Uphoff was born December 19, 1945 in Superior, Nebraska to Dale H. And Marjorie M. (Scofield) Woodman and passed away July 12, 2026, at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn, Kansas, at the age of 80.
Judy was a 1964 graduate of Belleville High School, Belleville, Kansas. She married Lester David Dunn on June 7, 1965, and to this union, three children were born: Donald, Jennifer, and Jason. The two later divorced in 1978. Judy welcomed Amanda to the world in July of 1980.
In 1985, Judy met and married Albert F. Uphoff and made their home in Greenleaf, Kansas. Al later adopted Amanda. After several years, they moved back to Belleville.
Judy always enjoyed helping others and as she worked various jobs throughout the years she always found herself serving others within the community. While she lived in Texas, Judy worked at the Kiddie Coop Daycare for her mother-in-law, Ruth Dunn, and then waited tables at Sambo's Restaurant. Missing her family, she and Amanda moved back to Kansas, where she could then be found working in Belleville at the Corner Grill waiting tables, cooking, and making her ‘famous' mile-high meringue pies. She also worked as a bus monitor for Belleville public schools.
During her time in Greenleaf, she worked at the Greenleaf Cafe, American Legion, Twin Valley, and became an EMT and served as the EMT Director in Greenleaf. Later, she became a CNA at the Hanover Hospital. After moving back to Belleville with Al and Amanda, she worked at the Republic County Health Department as a CMA.
Throughout her life, when she wasn't working, Judy loved to keep busy. In her younger years, she was an active member of EHU, the Daughters of Rebekah, and was also a 4-H leader for a short time. She was always helping with activities her girls were involved in , and loved spending time with her parents, brothers, and their families. She was an active member of the Belleville Wesleyan Church for many years, and even served as the secretary for a time. She also volunteered on the board at the Golden Bell Haven Senior Center. She enjoyed singing with her brothers in the Woodman Trio at nursing homes, in church, at the NCK Free Fair, and many other occasions. This Trio would eventually gain two of her nieces, as well. Judy proudly served as an area volunteer SHICK counselor for Republic County from 2009 until 2024, helping many people in the area with their Medicare drug insurance. She could also be found volunteering occasionally for the Belleville Public Library.
Judy's greatest enjoyment in life came from being a Mom (except when Amanda and Jennifer were arguing... again), Grandma, and GG. In her final months, she often expressed her excitement over Katie expecting a new baby and her goal of wanting to hold her new great-grandbaby. Judy was always lending a helping hand and expertise raising her grandchildren Katie and Brittany while they were young, especially while Jennifer was going to Nursing School. She truly enjoyed spending time laughing, cuddling, sharing stories, recipes, spoiling the kids and passing on family traditions, including the family-famous sugar pie. In her later years, she continued these traditions with her great-grandchildren. Judy also very proudly ‘adopted' a whole slew of grandchildren at church and within the community. Her heart and arms were always ready to provide love and comfort to every child she met.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Marjorie Woodman, brother Larry Woodman, sister-in-law. Diane Woodman, son, Jason Matthew Dunn, brother and sister-in-law Rosalie (Billy) Spaniol, brother-in-law Melvin Uphoff Sr, and mother and father-in-law Alice and Clyde Uphoff.
Judy will forever be remembered by her husband, Albert Uphoff of Belleville, son Donald (Tina) Dunn of Ace, TX, daughters Jennifer Lynn Dunn and Amanda Nicole Uphoff, both of Belleville, brother Marlin Woodman of Belleville, sister-in-law Mabel Woodman of Belleville, grandchildren Cory (Matthew) Wolf, Miranda (Allen) Lamarck, Chasey (Kelsey) Hitchcock, Katie (Ray) Evans, and Brittany (Brandon) Bungardt, great-grandchildren, Easton, Bennett, Willow, Brayden, Finn, Brently, Tristan, Milena, Hadley, and Archer, nieces and nephews, Lonnie (Mary) Woodman, Marlea (John) James, Lori Hall, Dawn (Craig) Eckhart, Holly Spaniol, Melvin (Melissa) Uphoff Jr, Sherri Landes, Jeff (Kendra) Landes, Heidi (Chris) Evans, Gary (Teresa) Landes and a multitude of other relation, as well as all of her ‘adopted' children, grandchildren, and many, many other friends and loved ones.
Family-led Celebration of Life Services will be held at the Belleville Wesleyan Church, 909 Wesleyan Drive, in Belleville, KS, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 10:30am, with Pastor Mark McGregor officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS.
Memorials can be made directly to the family in care of Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, PO Box 326, Belleville, KS and will be designated at a later date by the family.
