The staff of the KIDS FIRST Program will be conducting a free screening for children birth to 5 years of age living in Jewell, Mitchell, Lincoln counties and parts of Osborne county that are in the Waconda School District. The screening will be conducted in Cawker City during the morning of Friday Oct 2nd at USD 272 Board Office, 708 Locust in Cawker City. Parents having any questions concerning their child ages birth through 5 may call the Beloit Special Education Cooperative at 1-785-738-5275 ext. 1 before noon on Friday Sept 25th to make an appointment for your child. Approximately 30 minutes will be required to complete the screening.

Mitchell County Partnership for Children will be sponsoring "10 Steps to Positive Discipline Parent Training" on Saturday Oct 3rd from 9am - 4pm with lunch and snacks provided at the Port Library Meeting Room on the North Campus in Beloit. Free childcare available by reservation only, call 738-3055 ext 1 or ext 4 for Dawn by Monday Sept 28th.

The Best Dam Color Run going on Saturday September 26th in Glen Elder, checkin and registration 7-7:45am at the Glen Elder Square, race starts at 8am in front of Cunningham Telephone & Cable, 220 W Main. Later that day is the 10th annual Below the Dam Chili Cook-off, register 8-9am with turn-in times and judging from 1-4pm, with winners announced at 4:30pm. Live music from 7-11pm with Tommy Watt.
