The staff of the KIDS FIRST Program will be conducting a free screening for children birth to 5 years of age living in Jewell, Mitchell, Lincoln counties and parts of Osborne county that are in the Waconda School District. The screening will be conducted the morning of Friday March 3rd at the USD 298 Board Office 133 E Lincoln St in Lincoln, KS. Parents having any questions concerning their child ages birth through 5 may call the Beloit Special Education Cooperative toll free number at 1-785-738-5275 ext. 1 before noon on Friday February 24th to make an appointment for your child. Approximately 30 minutes will be required to complete the screening.


The Glen Elder Friends Church will present The Choices for Healthy Relationships seminar on Saturday evening Feb 25th from 6-8pm and on Sunday Feb 26th from 1-3pm. Presented with humor and passion, Dr. Tony Wheeler, founder and president of the Family Ministry Institute, will offer aspects of relationship building for every member of the congregation. Dr. Wheeler and his wife will also lead a discussion based on their new book "Coffee Conversations" on Sunday morning at 9:30 and will direct the morning worship service at 10:30. A potluck dinner will follow at noon. The public is invited at no charge and registration not required. The 4th Annual Rural Route 13.1 Run/Walk/Bike Ride is May 6th at 8am in Esbon, KS. Events offered include: Half-marathon run/walk, 10k run/walk, 13.1 mile bike ride, 6.2 mile bike ride. Entry fees: Adult (18 and over) - $40; Youth (17 and under) - $20. All participants will receive a perfomance-material t-shirt, customized race bib, and the opportunity to personalize their own finisher medal. A hot, home-cooked, locally-sourced breakfast will be available to all those who attend. All proceeds will benefit the Zach Kindler Memorial Scholarship Fund and The Esbon Community Alliance.
