Lakeside Fall Sports kick off going on Thursday August 24th starting at 6:30pm at the Football Field in Downs, hosted by the Downs & Glen Elder Lions Clubs. Free will donations accepted. Lakeside Booster Club will be set up to take memberships.

 

Classes forming now for Lincoln and Mitchell County Casa volunteers. Classes to be held in Beloit or Lincoln, starting in early September. Location and time determined by those participating in this 10 week Casa volunteer training. Apply online at kansascasa.org or call NCK Casa, 785-243-8200.

 

The last Tuesday of the month, the Beloit Arts Center will be hosting a free acoustic jam session. Tuesday August 29th from 6-8pm is the next session. All ages, all styles of music are welcom. Fiddlers are especially welcome but guitar, mandolin, bass, bouzouki, bohdran would be nice also. The Arts Center is located at 200 S Mill St in Beloit behind the Laundry Basket. There will also be an open house for all 3 areas, art dance and music from 4-6pm Tuesday August 29th.

 

 

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation has asked Osborne county to create goals and accomplish those goals through a strategic process - therefore the Osborne county community foundation is having a "Strategic Doing" meeting to develop consensus around top priority projects and develop an action plan. The meeting will be held on Monday evening August 21st from 6-8 at the Osborne United Christian Church, 214 N 2nd St in Osborne. A light supper will be provided. Mark your calendars for the Klayton Kadel Benefit Fundraiser, Saturday August 26th at the Beloit VFW. This benefit fundraiser is to assist with medical expenses for Klayton Kadel, free will donations welcome! Serving starts at 11am and continues til the homemade food is gone: feast on delicious pulled pork sandwiches, chips, baked beans and dessert. A Hunter Education Course is going on at the Ringneck Ranch in Tipton, KS on Saturday August 26th from 9am-3pm, registration beginning August 1st. Internet-assisted field day and testing session, maximum number of students is 35. Would you like to learn how you can become more involved in demonstrating God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share in the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than `46 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.

Three workshops will be presented in central Kansas to train Operation Christmas Child volunteers and project leaders from local churches.  The OCC Area Team will present information including: year-around opportunities to volunteer, raising suggested donations for shoebox gifts, introducing "The Greatest Journey" to churches and community groups, and increasing the number of shoeboxes each year. Project Leader resources will be available.
