James William Forshee was born November 12, 1928, at home in Meredith Township, Cloud County, Kansas, the only child of Charley and Theresa (Flynn) Forshee. He passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, Kansas at the age of 89. Jim was a lifelong resident of Cloud County, growing up on the farm that was homesteaded by his grandparents. He attended Cottonwood school and then graduated 8th grade from the Catholic School in Aurora. He met the love of his life, Betty Marie Fyfe, when he offered a young woman a ride home in a rainstorm in Miltonvale. They were married on February 5, 1947, at the age of 18 and enjoyed nearly 62 years of farming and raising a family together until her passing in January of 2009. He was a lifelong farmer and at the age of 13, he began farming on his own with 160 Acres. He farmed his ground at night and helped his parents and neighbors farm during the day. He operated a diversified crop and livestock operation until declining health in recent years when the operation was rented to family. He spent a number of years working in livestock auctions in Salina and Belleville and was an order buyer for stocker cattle, feeder cattle, and bred heifers with contacts and friends throughout the Midwest. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Meredith Township until its closing. When their health declined Jim and Betty moved to Concordia where they were members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, a daughter Judy and her husband Bob Moulton.

He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Wilma Jean McNee, Clay Center, Arlene Gibson (Dean), McPherson, his children James and wife Peggy of Glasco, Tom and wife Cathy of Aurora, Annette and husband Larry Starr of Concordia, John and wife Debra of Clay Center, and Mary and husband Greg Champlin of Garden City. He is also survived by 16 Grandchildren, 6 Step Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, 11 Step-Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandchild.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 26, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Parish Vigil at 7 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and also greeting after the Parish Vigil, all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery-Meredith Township, Rural Concordia, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to CCCC Foundation for Scholarships, Meadowlark Hospice or Cloud County 4-H Youth Fund c/o Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
