Ileen Tanis, 91

Ileen Tanis, 91, passed away at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita January 3, 2020. She was born February 19, 1928 in Smith County, the daughter of Joe and Jessie (Rosendale) Koops.
She graduated from Downs High School in 1945 and received a certificate in emergency teaching from Kansas Wesleyan University.
Ileen is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Tanis (2015); brothers, Bertus Koops, Roland Koops, Chester Koops, and sister Carol Koops.
She is survived by her children, Lois Elaine (James) Veenstra of Lombard, Illinois, Linda Beth (Russell) Groenendyk of Downs, Leanne Marie (Rodney) Jansen of Grinnell, Iowa; siblings, Rose (Merle) Nyhoff of Downs, Joyce Koops of Downs, John (Terril) of Downs; sister-in-law, Genny Tanis of Cawker City; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday January 9, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Dispatch Christian Reformed Church in Downs, Kansas.
Visitation with be Wednesday evening 7-8:30 at the church.
